California investigators use DNA to link serial rapist to cold instances, suspect arrested in NYC and extradited

While the case remained unsolved for years, Lester stated, the instances have been reviewed and adopted up on in 2018 by the Sacramento Police Department cold case detectives, sexual assault and youngster abuse unit and the DA’s workplace.
Using the organic proof from the primary two instances, a profile was created. Then the sheriff’s workplace had a full DNA profile created with the organic proof from the 2013 case.
The three instances all ended up matching.

“We have now found that the DNA samples collected from each of these cases as well as a case from the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office are from the same person,” Lester stated.
Cummings was recognized because the suspect, and an investigation discovered he was now residing in New York City.
At the time of the crimes, Lester stated, Cummings was residing in Sacramento and working for the town.

Cummings was arrested by the New York City Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation on Aug. 29, and on Friday, he was extradited again to Sacramento.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on Wednesday on costs of kidnapping and carrying away, kidnapping to commit rape, anal or genital penetration by international object by drive, forcible oral copulation, forcible rape and sodomy of an unconscious sufferer.
If convicted, he faces a most sentence of over 180 years to life in jail.
