At least 20 students killed in Guyana dormitory fire
Fire raced via a school dormitory in Guyana early Monday, killing at least 20 students and injuring an undetermined extra, authorities stated.
The Guyanese authorities stated in a press assertion that the fire broke out in the dormitory constructing of a secondary faculty in the southwestern border city of Mahdia, 200 miles south of the capital, Georgetown.
“This is a horrific incident. It’s tragic. It’s painful,” stated President Irfaan Ali, including that his authorities was mobilizing all sources to take care of the youngsters.
The authorities stated a number of different students have been being handled for accidents and at least six have been flown to the capital for remedy.

Ali stated officers have been contacting mother and father and mobilizing psychologists to assist cope with these affected by the fire.
“I cannot imagine the pain right now of the parents,” he stated. “This is a (*20*).”

The fire started shortly after midnight on the faculty that serves largely Indigenous youngsters aged 12 via 18, in keeping with National Security Adviser Gerald Gouveia. Local newspaper Stabroek News reported that the fire broke out in a ladies’ dormitory.

“We need to understand how this most horrific and deadly incident occurred and take all necessary measures to prevent such a tragedy from happening again in the future,” she stated.
